5 Reasons You Should Date a Vintage Girl
5. You’ll never run out of makeup again.
Want to try a darker lipstick? Sure, she’s got one from when she went for a 1930s look. Setting powder? No vintage girl would be photographed without it. Eyeliner? Which would you prefer: a kohl pencil for smudging, liquid liner for winging out, gel for longevity, or powder for a softer look? If you need it, chances are she’s tried it, and if you’re nice, she might just let you borrow it. Just… don’t ask to borrow her clothes. Ever.
4. She has a sense of history.
Ever been on a date with a girl who seems blissfully unaware of the world around her? No chance of that with a vintage girl. Vintage lifestyle extends beyond just clothes and makeup, although that’s certainly its outward manifestation. It includes an interest in history, in the movers and shakers of the eras that came before. We’re interested in culture, in the positive and negative aspects of the past, reclaiming what’s good, and learning from what wasn’t. And for a queer vintage girl, that includes an awareness of queer history, and her place in it.
3. She has a passion.
One of the most attractive things a woman can bring to the table is an outside hobby. Having a passion for something means she has a defined sense of self outside of your relationship. She has her own friends and her own interests, and though she’ll be happy to share them with you, she’ll always be her own, independent woman—and thank god for that. Between collecting old photographs, reading up on fashion and world history, and of course browsing the markets, she’s got plenty to do. So if you want a night out with your friends? No worries, babe.
2. She has chutzpah.
Think wearing a tilt hat in public is a breeze? Think again. It takes guts to put yourself in the public eye as something visibly and identifiably “different.” It’s an invitation for comments, stares, and even unwelcome iPhone photo shoots (Seriously, lady, what are you going to do with a photo of me riding a bus? Seriously.), but she knows who she is, and she’s done the work it takes to be at ease with it. What does this mean for your relationship? She’s secure with herself, she knows what she wants, and she isn’t afraid to put herself out there—all of which are critical to dating, and sexy as hell. And speaking of sexy--
1. Got a thing for pinups?
Cool. So does she.
