Hello lovely femme ladies! For my first Pink Lobster blog I thought it would be nice to introduce myself by sharing one of my more recent songs. I’ve been dating women for about three years at this point, having come out in my late teens and although I’ve struggled with labels and self acceptance over the years, these days I’m a happily out femme lesbian in a relationship with a beautiful woman.
I wrote ‘I Won’t Forget’ about three weeks after meeting my girlfriend and every time I play it I can’t help but smile. I didn’t have the greatest luck in love before meeting her and my friends kept reassuring me that at some point I’d meet someone and it would all feel worth it, but I was starting to lose hope. From the moment I met her I knew I wanted to be with her and thankfully, she felt the same way. This song do***ents the first few weeks of getting to know eachother and serves as a memento of a time I never want to forget.
One line in this song that might be worth illuminating is the line in the bridge that says “I won’t forget about chasing skunks”. The reason for this line is that one of the first times we hung out, I mentioned that I’d never seen a skunk (I’m from the UK, we met in Canada, where she lives) and she promised me that before I left to go home, she’d find one for me. Sure enough we were having a romantic evening in the park a couple of weeks later when she suddenly yelled “Oh my god! Come here quick - I’ve found you a skunk!” and that’s when I knew we were meant to be.
In future weeks I have plans to feature some other queer female singers and have even secured a couple of interviews, so that I can bring you some more insights from lady musicians who love ladies.
Lyrics for Femme-oke
Verse 1:
I was starting to give up
I was starting to give in
Before you
Thought maybe I was broke
Or that love was just a joke
Before you
And now I can’t stop smiling when I think of you
And my heart’s beating faster because of you
Chorus:
So take my hand and tell me that you want me
Fall asleep in my arms tonight
Talk to me about art and beauty
Intoxicate me tonight
Kiss me softly under the stars
Dance with me in the sprinklers
Oh this is a time I won’t forget
Verse 2:
For so many nights I cried
Thought that love had passed me by
Before you
But I feel the quickening of my heart
Feel that undeniable spark
With you
And now I can’t stop dancing when I think of you
And when I close my eyes you know I dream of you
CHORUS
Bridge:
I won’t forget about you saying you wanted to kiss me
I won’t forget being mermaids and drinking too much tea
I won’t forget about chasing skunks and kissing in the dark
I won’t forget about singing to you in the park
CHORUS
