Why Being Gay and Elderly is Not Old News
This week Channel 4 raised awareness about what it means to be gay and elderly.
Sadly it appears that many still worry and suffer major anxiety about being part of the LGBT community and what this means when going into care. Some have even said that they are so scared that they have resorted to pretending not to be gay again!
It was pointed out that when most came out, being gay was still illegal. This is why many also feel that there is still homophobia amongst people from their generation.
One terrible story told of a woman called Jo, whose carers wouldn’t even dress her because of her sexuality!
So not only are elderly gay people having to face the struggles of needing care, but they can also still battle homophobia.
I hope that this television programme raises enough awareness for further training within the healthcare system.
Rise like a Phoenix at London Pride

We were so excited to hear that Conchita Wurst will be headlining London Pride this weekend. The pride festivities have already started with lots of events going on all week. Conchita is sure to add sparkle and joy to the proceedings.
Our pink lobster dating team will be there adding our own unique twist as always so look out for us! We’ll be hard to miss…
We’re not Poo!
An Opera Singer this week spurted out horrific homophobic comments. In her position as a performer for Opera Australia, she called gay people the ‘faecal masses’ and encouraged violence against the LGBT community. She supported assaults, which took place at gay pride in the capital Tbilisi.
Georgian born, Tamar Iveri directed her comment to the Georgian president on Facebook. In reality what this proves is that she must have truly believed that what she was saying was legitimate. She is now blaming her husband, who she claimed has strong religious views, for posting these comments.
Fortunately, Opera Australia has today announced that they have removed her from her contract to perform Othello. However, people are still shocked that it took them until today for them to make this obvious move.
Her career has now been damaged significantly with other organisations removing her from their schedules.
Brooke Vincent: Is She or Isn’t She?

The Coronation Street actress who plays a lesbian on the soap has been making it clear that she is not gay. She claims that people often believe that she is a lesbian because of her part on the show. The fact that she portrays this character so well as to convince people that she is a lesbian is not the point! What I would like to say is why is it so important for her to proclaim that she is not one?! Yes, people may be sad enough to believe that soap operas are not real life, but why is it that actors can’t play LGBT roles without constant questioning about their sexuality?
Since she split from footballer Josh McEachran, she says that this is the reason she cannot find a new man! What a great excuse! In my experience being a lesbian hasn’t stopped men trying it on with me.
I’m sure that Brooke won’t struggle to find a man – unless she wants to be with one who is stupid enough to believe that she is a lesbian because of a part she plays on television!
Lesbian Author Kills Rabbit
Normally when you hear the words ‘lesbian’ and ‘rabbit’ other images come to mind. However, this week, my favourite author Jeannette Winterson faced backlash when she posted pictures of how she killed a rabbit. The internet has gone mad with reactions to this story and today alone there are 68 news articles detailing all the gory details! The images were graphic and her comments just added to the shock. Her followers, including myself, were surprised to read all about how she skinned and cooked a rabbit and fed her cat all the innards.
Obviously people were disgusted by this. One follower wrote:
“I unfollow u, u make me sick. I will never again read a word u write. Rest in peace, little rabbit.”
The author merely retorted with ‘My rabbit traps are cages. Rabbit in, you dispatch it humanely OF COURSE! Rabbits look cute but the eco-balance is out this year.’

Whilst, most people were clearly against her, some of her followers in fact went the opposite way by showing her support and asking for advice!
Winterson is known for not caring what people think and being confident in her actions. At least we can say that she stuck to her guns (or is that traps and knives?)!
The next day Winterson spoke on BBC Radio 4 about this to support her actions and was adamant that what she had done was right. This included saying: “I have got a rabbit population, which is decimating my vegetable garden and my flower garden. Now either I stand by and let that happen or I deal with it.” Clearly her batteries have not run out on this one!
