Capital & LA Pride – Doing it for the Lesbians
LA Pride in West Hollywood, California took place 6th – 8th June and what a feast it was for us lesbians. It was marshalled by non-other than the gorgeous Demi Lovato who performed “Really Don’t Care”. When homophobic protesters turned up with horrible signs she was quoted to have said: “I believe in the Lord, and I am still up for equality. You don’t have to hate because my Jesus loves all.” Go Demi Go!!!

Jennifer Hudson was also there and performed some of her favourites including “Spotlight”.
Over in Washington DC, Rita Ora lead the Capital Pride Parade. Following which, on Twitter, Rita thanked everyone for coming out and being Proud!

Seems like all the best people are getting involved to show their support in Pride all over the world.
Next Pride is the big one in London on June 28th. Remember to catch your tickets for our Big Pre-London Pride Lesbian Party on June 27th for only £4 in advance HERE!
#FreedomTo Be Femme Campaign

This leads me nicely onto the #FreedomTo Campaign, which launched today for London Pride. Graham Norton is one of the celebrities supporting this campaign.
Join in and tweet your #FreedomTo Be Femme photos on twitter and remember to add us in @LipstickLezzer. If we get enough we’ll put them altogether on here for you to drool over!
STOP Uganda’s Power
In last week’s news we reported on Harriet Nakigudde and fears that she was going to be sent back to Uganda. I was so relieved and tearfully delighted to hear that she had finally been granted asylum in the UK for homophobic persecution. Personally I believe campaigning to keep her here was a key factor in the reversal of this decision and this is why it’s so important to fight for human rights and fairness.
Sadly, just as we think justice has been won, the Ugandan Foreign Minister Sam Kutesa has now been elected as President of the United Nations General Assembly. Although he claims that he is not homophobic, human rights campaigners are evidently concerned about his stance on Uganda’s anti-gay legislation. How did this happen? And how many campaigns do the people need to run before governments use their common sense?

Channel 5 Keeping Homophobia Alive on Big Brother
Once again Big Brother has raised controversy with Danielle McMahon’s homophobic comments. It seems that historically Big Brother breeds contestants who are homophobic, racist and basically ignorant. Remember back in 2007 and the celebrated racist incident between Shilpa Shetty and the late Jade Goody?
Well this year, Danielle made the following comment on gay marriage: "The Catholic Church don't believe in it and I go by what the Pope says."

Although she made it clear that she is against same sex marriage, she is adamant that she is not homophobic. This made me think… is it wrong to be against same sex marriage? Well if you are against marriage in general I would say ‘no’. On the other hand, saying that only gay marriage is wrong, is undoubtedly homophobic.
Sadly, it appears that she is indeed homophobic, with a number of other comments on Big Brother, and extreme comments on social media prior to going into the house, which I do not wish to repeat here. But trust me they are truly vile!
I do wonder if all this publicity helps Big Brother and maybe the best thing would be to just boycott the programme in general.

And Finally, We’re On Our Knees for Dame
Angelina Jolie
Angelina Jolie has been awarded this year on the Queen’s Birthday Honours list for her work to raise worldwide awareness of violence again women and for services to UK foreign policy. And here’s us just loving her for turning tombs in those hot pants as Lara Croft (not that I’m superficial or anything)! Not only is she the world’s most beautiful woman (as voted in Vogue), an Oscar winner and mother of many, but she clearly has the drive and passion and who doesn’t love a woman who fights for what she believes in? Angelina is in fact one of the few women from the US to be honoured in this way in the UK.
Jolie said: “I know that succeeding in our goals will take a lifetime, and I am dedicated to it for all of mine.” And just when we thought we couldn’t love her anymore…
