Black is Back

I'm going to start with something that is close to my heart. OITNB.
This week sees the return of the release of the second season.
If you’re like me, you will have been waiting with baited breath to see exactly how many episodes of season 2 Alex Vause is in.
Luckily for us she has been confirmed for all of season 3.
I will be spending this weekend holed up in my room for an OITNB marathon.
The Home Office Strikes Again
The Home Office has come under fire in recent years for its frequently documented cases of deporting LGBT asylum seekers back to countries such as Uganda where they face violence, claims the Home Office have always fiercely denied.
The most recent case is that of 30 year old Harriet Nakigudde who fled her country after experiencing homophobic persecution from her family and the Ugandan government.
She is due to be deported next week, viewed by many to be a gross miscarriage of justice on the part of the Home Office.
Her case has been brought to appeal status, yet the government still see the need to deport her, when such cases as Abu Hamza took years to result in deportation.
Although the LGBT community are constantly compared to the likes of major terrorists, I will never understand the Home Office's mentality for deporting members of the LGBT community.
'Paige Was My Favourite'

Rose McGowan threw a party in support of Brunei-owned Beverly Hills Hotel.
In April the Sultan of Brunei gave approval for a law which urges death by stoning for same-sex sexual activity.
Celebrities rallied together and boycotted all hotels in the Dorchester Family.
When I read that Rose McGowan had thrown a party in support of the hotel, I had to do a double take. No not Paige, she was my favourite of the three Haliwell sisters (unsurprisingly I was a big Charmed fan).
However, as I read on it all became clear.
McGowan said "boycotts only work when they hurt the targets bottom line"
"It (the hotel) could sit empty for 100 years and he wouldn't even notice. But meanwhile, we're hurting all the wonderful, struggling people who work in the hotel"
Phew, I thought for a minute I was going to have to boycott Charmed re-runs.
'Sodom and GAYmorrah'

Northern Ireland's First Minister Peter Robinson hasn't been shy recently in showing his support for a Christian preacher who has compared gay marriage to the return of Sodom.
For those who aren't familiar with biblical scripture. Sodom and Gomorrah were two city's back in olden times that became so full of sin, God apparently reigned down balls of fire to destroy them.
In an interview with Irish News Mr Robinson, who is the leader of NI Democratic Unionist Party, defended the preacher, pastor James McConnell, stating it was his duty to denounce what he described as "false prophecy".
You won't be surprised to hear that the very same minister also branded Islam "satanic".
Why is it so often homophobia and racism go hand in hand?
Gay Genes

The arguments for and against homosexuality being a "choice" is a continuous one.
In July 1993 American Geneticist Dean Hamer released a study suggesting the existence of a "gay gene" on the X chromosome passed on by the mother. (So you really can blame your mother, or thank her). This evidence offered scientific evidence that, shock of all horrors, being gay isn't a choice.
This month researchers at the Human Genome Project released the results of a study suggesting that there may well be genes involved. They found evidence of at least two sets of genes that affect sexuality.
They conducted a study on 409 pairs of gay brothers and their heterosexual family members.
