Julianne Moore and Ellen Paige not allowed to film at New York Catholic School
The new film starring Moore and Paige is currently being shot. Freeheld tells the story of a dying police officer's wish for partnership in order to protect her partner financially.
Paige recently came out as a lesbian and has become a role model for many, whilst Moore has starred as a lesbian in many roles including The Kids Are All Right.
Although the all-boys Catholic school originally approved filming they denied access in the end. Their reasoning was the lesbian content of the film. The school in the past has been used for filming and this clearly confirms their reasoning for denying access in this instance.
This story interestingly mirrors the issues in the film about the discrimination the couple endured in this true life tale. Furthermore, with recent focus on the Catholic Church, following a report on how gay and lesbian people should be regarded, highlighted negative conservative bishops continued narrow-minded attitude towards the community.
I’m sure the boys at the school are severely disappointed and will certainly be downloading copies in their dorm rooms when it comes out.
