Walmart Sued for Homophobia
An employee of Walmart was denied same-sex benefits which heterosexual couples are granted within the organisation.
The wonderful organisation that is GLAD (Gay & Lesbian Advocates & Defenders) filed the complaint on behalf of Jacqueline Cote who has been asking for this equality for the last six years. Her request for her spouse, Diana Smithson, to be added to her Health Care plan was repeatedly denied simply because she was female.
The couple’s medical bills are extremely high due to Smithson being a breast cancer sufferer and they rightly believe that their marriage should be given equal validity.
Walmart were not even subtle about their policy and told her that the company do not offer this benefit to same-sex couples.
The complaint by GLAD supports the fact that they have violated workplace discrimination on the grounds of sex.
