Talk Nerdy To Me: Star Trek Writer Responds Fabulously to Homophobe
Star Trek is known for its involvement of diverse characters in storylines, and though I’ve never gotten into the show (despite constant urges from my flatmate), I have a lot of respect for any writer who makes a conscious effort to represent minority groups in their work.
David Mack, who wrote two episodes for the show, and ‘Harbinger’ in 2005, featured a lesbian couple in his novel. When a homophobic fan realised this, and challenged the author on his work, he was met with the truly amazing response of:
‘I’m a f**ing Star Trek writer. Those of us who write the licensed Trek fiction continue to do our best to depict a more progressive, enlightened, open, and harmonious future, not just for humanity but for all sentient beings.’
