The government has presented its draft anti-gay law. If this new law comes into play, Ugandan’s could be sentenced to 7 years in prison for simply being seen to “promote” homosexuality.
Earlier in the year there was a threat of life imprisonment for homosexuality, which did not go ahead. Instead this law may take its place and many are saying that it could be even worse. The fact that no one would even allowed to talk about it, means that everyone will be affected and treatment of gay people will naturally worsen.
If this becomes law, individuals and organisations seeking to support those suffering from the LGBT community, could face imprisonment.
Homosexuality is also illegal and punishable in the current legal system of Uganda.
